Logo: still gay ... just not as much
Logo, the gay cable channel, announced it was shifting its programming focus with new series and development deals that reflect gays and lesbians' increasing integration into mainstream culture. In other words, they are moving away from shows with gay leads.
"Our goal at Logo has always been to honestly reflect our viewers' lives," said Lisa Sherman, Executive Vice President of Logo. "We're now reinforcing our commitment to them with programming that truly mirrors how many of them are living and want to be entertained today."
This includes Eden Wood's World, which follows the life of six-year-old Eden from Toddlers and Tiaras. And Wiseguys, about a woman running her own business while hoping to pull away from her family's mob past, with a gay son thrown in for good measure. We mustn't forget Design My Dog, a studio-based, reality-competition show that tests the creative talents of dog owners and their canine companions. It's the type of gay-friendly programming for which we've all been waiting.
"These new projects are anchored by stories that go deep into today's world: Eden Wood has already accomplished more than most of us will in our entire lives. ... Families in business together during a recession could be the ultimate drama. And pets are now surrogate children for a lot of people -- who go to great lengths to celebrate them," said Brent Zacky, Senior Vice President, Original Programming.
“They’re only developing shows with non-gay leads," said a former Logo staffer. "They are trying to be Bravo -- a gay best friend -- as opposed to just being gay."
Joe Del Hierro, producer of Transamerican Love Story and The Big Gay Sketch Show says its all about money. “They need to appeal to a broader audience to get the numbers up, so they can charge more for ad revenues," he said. "It’s what Bravo did in its early years.”
Branching out makes sense, but dog grooming and pageant kids? That just stinks of desperation (and a lack of creativity).

Reaching out to male rape survivors

Hoping to take some of the stigma out of male rape, non-profit organization Survivors UK has launched a new campaign in London, UK called “Real Men Get Raped."
140 posters with the words "real men get raped and talking about it takes real strength," featuring a punctured rugby ball, have been put up throughout the city.
“We’ve chosen to use an alpha male sport in our advertising to challenge assumptions about the type of men who get raped,” said Michael May, spokesman for Survivors UK. “It’s just as likely to be a rugby player as a librarian, a suited city banker as a hooded gang member. And we hope that by challenging our innate assumptions about the identity of male victims, we can make it even fractionally easier for a male rape victim to ask for help.”
The National Center for Victims of Crime estimates that about 3% of American men have been the victim of a rape or sexual assault at some point in their lifetime, which is 3% too many.

Finally, something Santorum can be proud of
Hey, it's everybody's favorite homosexuality-obsessed Republican, Rick 'Frothy Mix' Santorum. Someone gathered a collection of porn pics, put them together, and created this portrait of the man. How touching.

The soothing sounds of gay sex
A British radio station apologized yesterday after playing several minutes of gay porn over the air waves.
Jazz FM said the error was “highly regrettable." It is now being investigated by the industry regulator to determine if the Broadcasting Code has been violated.
The station is known for playing smooth jazz and jazz standards, but instead of the squawking of the saxophone, listeners were treated to the sounds of happy homos humping. Name change suggestion: Jizz FM.
“Unfortunately we had an unauthorised access to the live feed this evening which resulted in a highly regrettable incident," the station said in a statement. “Please accept our profound and sincere apologies for any offence that may have been caused.”
Mike Vitti, station programme director, said disciplinary action would follow.

Arizona sheriff outed in messy scandal
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu may have a tough fight to win a GOP nomination for an Arizona congressional seat, after being outed.
Babeu acknowledged his sexuality after a former lover released information about a ten year long relationship the two shared. The man, a Mexican immigrant, claimed that the sheriff threatened him with deportation should their relationship be made public.
Babeu has already made a name for himself on the national stage as a strong advocate for stronger border security, speaking out against illegal immigration and smuggling. And he said that, in spite of the allegations against him, he would continue to work for the nomination.
"This whole rumor, this whole idea of who I am in my private life has been shopped around," Babeu told reporters. "This was a way, the hook, of how this could be brought out, and to malign and attack a sheriff who does stand for conservative principals, who does enforce the law."
He denied all the allegations, save one. "I'm here to say that all the allegations that were in the story were untrue — except for the instance that refers to me as gay," Babeu said. "That's the truth — I am gay."
Babeu claimed the man was simply retaliating after a bitter break-up.
To add to the scandal, a picture he used on a gay hook-up site has also been released.
Political opponents seemed to relish the news. State Sen. Ron Gould said he believed Babeu's posting of pictures on what the lawmaker called a "homosexual hookup website" were a "Congressman Weiner type of moment."
"The real issue here is the poor judgment of a government official, posting those kinds of photos on a public website," Gould said.
Babeu should learn: the GOP prefers that one's scandals involve someone of the opposite sex, and absolutely no half-naked pics.

Chris Christie vetoes New Jersey gay marriage bill
As promised, Gov. Chris Christie has vetoed New Jersey's recently passed gay marriage bill.
He claimed that there was no fundamental constitutional right to same-sex marriage. He also said that gay couples in his state already benefit from civil unions, giving them the same rights as married couples. However, he added that he would be willing to create an ombudsman to oversee any issues of discrimination couples in civil unions may have faced.
"I have been just as adamant that same-sex couples in a civil union deserve the very same rights and benefits enjoyed by married couples — as well as the strict enforcement of those rights and benefits," Christie said.
Christie has also insisted that the issue of gay marriage should be put to the people in a referendum.
Senate President Steve Sweeney said the veto was "a shameful act hidden behind the guise of a public referendum."
"Today, he firmly planted his feet on the wrong side of history," Sweeney said. "He certainly does not deserve whatever credit he will probably receive for maintaining his misguided position. He had a chance to do the right thing, and failed miserably."
Christie has been touted as a possible 2016 Republican presidential candidate, so our cynical side says he wants to do the right thing, but is being held back because of the power of the cultural conservatives in his party. Hey Christie, grow a pair!

St Petersburg dismisses pleas to end war on gays
The local government of St Petersburg, Russia, continues to stand against allowing any rights for the gay community. Politicians have repeatedly banned gay pride parades, and now a controversial bill is being considered that would make it illegal to portray homosexuality in a positive light.
A group of mothers sent a letter to the St Petersburg lawmakers begging them to reconsider the ‘gay propaganda’ law. However, a senior official dismissed the letter as a fake, claiming that "no one cares about offending the gay community."
The letter said: “Being homosexual is not easy. Coming out is difficult and painful, especially because these young people are alone. When they realize their nature, they are often under-aged. Many of them end up on the verge of suicide, because there is no one they can talk to about their feelings.
“Children must be enlightened, not scared. Homophobia is laughable in the 21st century. Russia’s task is to destroy homophobia and help children and their parents who face this situation.”
"There have been several of these letters," responded Vitaly Milonov, deputy of St. Petersburg’s legislative assembly, "I suppose all of them were written by the same person. And I don’t think these were mothers. And I do not even think this to be a good example for real mothers – those who face this, I can even say, tragedy."
The European Parliament has denounced the ‘gay propaganda’ law. However, it will take more than a resolution to battle this level of ignorance.

Bondage couple caught in a Subaru
Nikolas Harbar, 31, and his girlfriend, Stephanie Pelzner, 26, are experiencing their 15 minutes of fame, thanks to a little bondage sex -- in a Subaru.
Yes, the Oregon couple was caught quite literally with their pants down. Well, pants down and her mouth taped shut. Someone saw it, thought she was being kidnapped and called 911.
Nine cop cars arrived on the scene to find Harbar walking away from the vehicle and Pelzner still tied up and naked inside. And though it was all consensual, the two were charged with disorderly conduct.
"The concern is their actions created a pretty substantial public alarm, to the point where you have a 911 caller saying she's concerned about this person tied up naked in the back of a car," Sgt. Pete Simpson explained.
"Role-play all you want," he added. "But when you do something that is going to generate a 911 call you should probably do it at home."
Still, the comments on the Portland Police Department’s Facebook page have not been kind ... to the cops. "Nothing wrong with that, they were just trying to have some fun, you monsters," said one person. Another added "She should be booked for not wearing her safety belt.”
